One summer, when I was about 10 years old, I remember being at a market with my parents. Whilst they were browsing the stalls, I spotted a magician performing impossible magic with coins and I spent the whole afternoon watching him. I was completely amazed.
Seeing the astonishment in my eyes, my parents decided to buy some simple tricks for me to learn. I remember sitting down and reading the instructions, being full of wonder and amazement, realising that in my hands I had the power of miracles.
In that instant, my life was changed.
Over the years which followed I studied hard and learned as much as I could. I discovered that I had a talent and a passion for Magic.
Every Christmas and birthday was filled with new magic, and in the summer we would take trips to a Magic shop in Blackpool where I would spend days with the owner learning more and more about an art which was slowly becoming my life.
When I left school at 16 I joined the British Army and started a career in service of the country, of course I took my magic with me everywhere and performed at every opportunity that presented itself.
It was not long before I was noticed and found myself performing after hours in the NAFFI for my colleagues and friends. This led on to my being invited to perform at the Regimental Sergeants Mess ball, and then, at a celebration of the Queen's birthday whilst I was on tour in Kosovo. It was my first taste of performing to 'real' people, but it would not be my last.
Since then I have performed in many different situations, and for thousands of people, and my love for the art of magic has only ever grown. I have made friends all over the world as a result of it, and it has taken me to places in life that I may not have been able to go otherwise. Being a magician is like being in a worldwide community, and wherever I go, I am always able to find friends.
At the age of 18, I joined a local Magic society and was soon invited to join The Magic Circle, the most prestigious Magic society in the world. In 1999, I performed my examination in London, where I passed and was very proud to be made Member of The Magic Circle.
I was performing for people as often as possible, soon becoming professional and appearing at weddings and parties.
I also started to study more and more types and varieties of Magic, and with the help of other magicians and members of The Magic Circle, I am still learning new things.
In May 2017 I performed again for my fellow members of The Magic Circle. I was promoted to Associate of The Inner Magic Circle and given the Silver Star, the highest possible award for examination performance. I now help and mentor apprentices of The Magic Circle in their quest to become members themselves, guiding them towards a successful outcome in their own examinations and study.
Magic has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I am always proud and eager to share my passion.
I consider myself to have been very lucky to have had the support and mentorship of many amazing magicians, all of whom shared their knowledge with me and helped to make me the Magician that I am today.
